Why Do You Need To Back You Data With A CD Rom?

Computers have truly infiltrated every aspect of human life from schools to hospitals and from restaurants to space stations; there isn’t one place on earth that does not use computers. This makes the millions of terra bytes of data stored of them very important including the data on your personal computer.

Your very own PC may have a gamut of information that may include personal pictures, business information, financial data etc and losing it may be a daunting experience to say the least. Unfortunately regardless of how expensive and how sophisticated your computer is, it will still have the propensity to crash or encounter other issues that may lead to data loss. So it is important to keep a back up of your data.

Now there are several ways to do so. However, the easiest and by far the most inexpensive way of backing up your data is to simply store it on a CD Rom. Now, even though this method is not devoid of draw backs, its advantages far outweigh its shortcomings.

One of the advantages of this method is that your data will be stored on CDs and a standard CD-Rom can hold almost 700 MB of data which equates to a lot of files and folders. You can store any type of data; pictures, videos, music, documents, software etc. You can also store entire folders containing various types of files.

Apart from the normal ‘one use’ CDs you also get CD-RW which are rewritable discs. If you use these you can continue adding data till all the space on the disc has been occupied. Also you will be able to rewrite on existing data, so if you constantly update your documents these discs may be the perfect option for you.

On the other hand a normal CD also has its benefits if you simply want to store the data without changing it you can be sure that these discs will store your data for a life time and provide a sturdy backup whenever you need it. However you will only be able to write data on these CDs once.

Another reason for the popularity of CDs as backup storage devices is the extremely affordable price of discs as well as CD burners. A few years back they were quite expensive but today most computers come equipped with a CD writer or burner and if you have an older model purchasing a CD burner separately is not very expensive either.

CD-Roms are certainly more reliable than floppy discs and they can also store a lot more data. It is considerably easy to access them as compared to online backup and they are very resilient. So if you want to back up important data you cannot go wrong with a CD-Rom.
