The facebook virus comes from downloading and playing games in facebook. Facebook is known with its interactive User interface, its games and its huge social network. All of facebook games are built upon ActiveX controls which are at high security risk. This risk is where the viruses comes from.
The virus is more like spyware and can open popups, delete files and wrack your Operating system easily.
To get rid of facebook viruses, you should use an Anti Virus. My recommendation is Micro Anti Virus. It is not a free Anti Virus (though I really recommend NOT TO USE a free anti virus), but also it is not expensive and it is definitely worth the money as it is rated as the best Anti Virus today. Micro Anti Virus will remove the facebook virus in a few minutes as its database holds the latest viruses around, and while it is installed on your PC, it will prevent facebook viruses from threating your computer in the future.

Great post, Just on time. I use Norton and Facebook and I see Norton quarantines a lot of Facebook files and cookies. Seems like it works cause I was never infected with any of the Facebook errors around.
Yeah, Great Post. Keep the good job.
Love your blog. Nice design.
I HATE FACEBOOK! and this virus is another reason to hate facebook.
YYEEEEAHHHHH!!! I used Norton and it removed not only the virus from facebook, but also stopped all of the popups in my computer. Thanx.
Thanks, I’m trying to do my best and give you all the best solutions for the latest threats.
IT WORKED!!! Great post, great blog.
Hey – I got this virus as well but I found a simple way to remove it.
1. Complte AVG scan (free edition)
2. Shut down the iexplore.exe process using the task manager
3. Delete the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\690974
that’t it (worked for me)
Hi Nir, Maybe AVG Removes Facebook Viruses, but I’m really not recommending on using a free Anti Virus as you have no reliable support and not necessarily have an up to date threats database. I know from my experience that Norton does a great job and it is ready to handle any threat today.
Tried your way Nir. didn’t solved the problem.
YEAAAAAAA!! Norton did fix that. Thanks.
Glad I could help you, facebook viruses can come and go so it is better to keep your system protected from them.
Norton rulls. It found 132 viruses including 3 facebook viruses on my computer and cleaned them in 2 minutes.
Glad I could help.
That is what happening when using facebook. fortunatley there are anti viruses around that can help.
The codecsetup.exe was downloaded and ran on my computer. An error message appeared right away. I ran spybot and AVG, with the latest updates and it found nothing. How do I know if I have the full virus/worm? My computer runs slow anyway because I have very little HD space left
Hi B.K.M.
It doesn’t have to be virus/spyware. You don’t have a lot of space in your HD what causes low virtual memory, I would recommend you to run a registry cleaner to free some space on your HD by removing the unneeded temporary files and it should also fix your error message. If that doesn’t help than you should extend you HD. Hope it helps.
Great article. Love your site.
Look for Norton Antivirus 2009, that went out to the market right now. It has the most updated virus database including all of the facebook viruses.
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.
Thank Sandra,
I just updated its design, great to hear this…
I can’t understand why would people infect facebook with viruses, what will they get out of it?
All because of SPAM, people want to spam to make money, that is why you have facebook viruses.
