Internet Explorer Errors, What To Do?

Encountering errors while browsing in Internet Explorer is a very common occurrence. There are many different types of errors that can be encountered. Here are some of the most common:

  • “The page cannot be displayed.”
  • Redirection. This is when you enter in the web address to one site, but are taken to a different site instead.
  • Forbidden/Access Denied. This occurs when you are trying to access a webpage for which you do not have permission. Usually, this is a private server or a private webpage that you must have credentials to view.
  • 52 Runtime Error, usually caused by connection and script issues.
  • Miscellaneous unknown errors: Internet Explorer crashes with no apparent cause.

You may assume that your computer is infected with viruses or spyware if you encounter one or more of these areas. While that is certainly possible, and a frequent cause of errors, it is not always the case, and some basic steps should be taken before you resort to more drastic measures.

The first thing you should do is to perform some basic cleaning procedures. Often, cleaning out your temporary internet files, cookies, and caches is the only thing that is needed to stop Internet Explorer from encountering errors. This is a very simple process. Simply go to your Internet Properties, and delete all of your browsing history. It’s also a good idea to remove any unused or unwanted programs. If you have antivirus programs installed on your PC, run scans to check for any malware. If you’re still encountering errors, you may need to clean your registry, either manually or through the use of a registry cleaning software, but be careful which software you choose to use, as some of them can be malicious or false. Always back up the registry before making any changes or running any cleaning software.

For the most part, Internet Explorer errors can be prevented. Be careful which programs and files you download onto your computer. Get a good antivirus program, and be sure to keep your virus definitions up to date It’s a good idea, as well, to download additional protection, such as anti-malware and anti-spyware programs. Perform basic maintenance on a regular basis. Be sure to keep your Recycle Bin empty Defragment your hard drive at least once per week. Depending on how often you browse the internet, you should clear out your temporary files and cookies anywhere from once per day to once per week. Of course, if you continue to encounter errors or your web browser becomes completely unresponsive after completing these steps, you may have to resort to a complete reformat of your computer.

All in all, keeping your computer secure will prevent the majority of Internet Explorer errors, as well as keep your PC running at the highest efficiency.
